- Advice. The Archives New Zealand Section includes professional conservators and conservation technicians. They give conservation advice on general care of material or on specialised care of specific archival media types available.

- Disaster preparedness. Preservation staff also provide help in disaster preparedness, planning and salvage. Consultancy services are available on a charged basis including:
- Access to literature on preservation, storage and disaster management. Archives New Zealand operates a Library containing material on most aspects of Archives and records management. The Library is available to subscribers by appointment. Contact the Librarian on library@archives.govt.nz.
