4. > ESTABLISHING AN INITIAL PROJECT TEAM AND GOVERNANCE

An initial project team should be set up to assist with formulating and reviewing the business case. The team, which will be widened once the business case is approved, should ideally include:

• The records manager;
• An executive manager to sponsor the project;
• An information management specialist;
• An information technology specialist;
• A user who works with the processes that are being evaluated.

A steering committee is also recommended to manage project governance. Good project governance is essential to the success of any project. Practices such as executive sponsorship, regular project reporting and the development of a risk management framework are required to ensure project value is delivered.
