3. > TRANSFERRING ELECTRONIC RECORDS

Archives New Zealand's current policy on the transfer of electronic records is to:

• wherever possible, acquire custodial control of and provide access to electronic records and information deemed to be of long-term value, in a form to be negotiated;
• provide authority and appropriate controls for agencies maintaining electronic records deemed to be of long-term value.

Transfer of electronic records is a complex and rapidly changing area. If you have electronic records that you want to transfer, you need to contact Archives New Zealand as early as possible.

Not all types of electronic records will be able to be transferred directly. Some records may need to be retained by agencies in the medium term.
