6. > LABELLING BOXES

All containers, including boxes, map and plan folders, and card index cabinets should be clearly labelled.

London boxes have a pre-printed label, so you can write directly on the box. For other boxes place the label on the front of the box, under the handle.

Archives New Zealand is currently introducing new labels. Examples of both the old and new labels are provided below.

• Write legibly, using a waterproof bold black marker.

The information required on each label includes:

• GAIMS Agency Code (provided by Archives New Zealand)
• Accession (provided by Archives New Zealand)
• Box number
• Range of files in the box
